Alaska's universities are rated as some of the most affordable in the United States.
- Tuition and fees vary by university and from campus to campus, and actual costs will depend on program, course level, number of credits taken, residency, living arrangements and lifestyle.
- On-campus room and board is approximately $10,000 - $15,000 depending on location, room and meal plans.

The University of 91直播Board of Regents voted August 4 to eliminate out-of-state tuition (aka 鈥渘onresident tuition鈥 or 鈥淣RT鈥) effective for the 2027-28 academic year.
Starting next fall, all students attending the University of 91直播Anchorage (UAA), University of 91直播Fairbanks (UAF), and University of 91直播Southeast (UAS) will pay the same tuition rates as 91直播residents.

Each university continues to have its own tuition rates. Eliminating the out-of-state rate does not merge or standardize rates across universities. Rates shown reflect the current academic year. Rates for 2027-28 will be approved by the Board of Regents in November 2026.
August 2026: Board votes to extend resident rates system-wide
September 2026: Board sees proposed tuition rates and policy changes
November 2026: Board considers final rates for 2027-28
Fall 2027: New structure takes effect
